John Avildsen obituary - The Guardian

He was known to some Londoners - most notable for his involvement in

organising and carrying out the anti-Castro campaign for Cuba.

Jorge Bichao was shot and critically wounded outside his car when soldiers opened fire, following a break into his house on 22 May 1969 and killing the driver. His friend, Ernest "Jimmy" Guimarães is rumoured to have helped get to where Jimmy took cover with Ben, his own young brother.

Ben Cairns, born April 27 1919, later became involved in leading Boycott St Pat's against Spain's imperialist aggressions and ended the occupation that he began in 1940 on 11 August 1936

Saddam al-Yaqsi, spokesman to Mosul Media Corps, announced the death over radio. The group said Ghassan was captured at noon.
